Room no.1 – Rupert.

A light and airy double room designed with an elegant cream theme of birds and butterflies. Finished with light wood and an elegant dresser, it is a perfect place to relax.

Named after Prince Rupert of the Rhine, nephew of King Charles I and General of the Royalist Army. Having spent many of his teenage years at Charles’ court, during the Civil War, he became the King’s Chief Military Advisor. Although he advised the king against the Battle of Naseby (June 1645), Rupert and his brother Maurice took command of the right flank of the cavalry. He survived the battle, but was damaged politically by the Royalists’ defeat. Throughout the Civil War, he was seen as an iconic Royalist Cavalier by both Royalists and Parliamentarians. This image has endured throughout the centuries.
